Time to Thrive
Rainbow Refugee’s Time to Thrive (T2T) Program provides structured, trauma-informed psychosocial support for LGBTQ+ individuals currently living in British Columbia who have completed their refugee hearing, arrived through resettlement, or are living with uncertain or limited immigration status due to forced displacement.
Whether you are adjusting to life after a refugee hearing, resettling after sponsorship, or navigating systems with limited access to services, the Time to Thrive Program offers holistic, community-based support grounded in dignity, safety, and connection.
At Rainbow Refugee, we don’t use the word client. We use member , because you’re not just receiving support, you’re joining a community.
Our members are LGBTQIA+ people and people living with HIV+ who have come to Canada seeking safety, support, and belonging. As a member, you can access our programs, connect with others, and find a space where you’re valued for who you are.
To become a member and access support through Rainbow Refugee, you must meet all of the following criteria:
Identity
You identify as LGBTQIA+, including transgender, non-binary, intersex, lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, or questioning.
Location
You are currently living in British Columbia.
Immigration Status
You are one of the following:
• A refugee claimant
• A Protected Person
• A resettled refugee (GAR or PSR)
Are you afraid to return to your home country?
Even if you do not meet the immigration status criteria above, you are welcome to reach out.
If your situation involves fear of returning to your country of origin while in Canada, we may still be able to support you or connect you with someone who can.
Exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis, and our team will assess your situation with care and respect.
Intake form required:
All participants must complete an intake form so we can understand your needs and prioritize support based on urgency and safety.

Looking for social events and community in BC?.
Starting a new life in a different country or navigating the refugee process can be overwhelming and isolating. The Community Engagement & Belonging (CEB) Program is a space where LGBTQIA+ refugees and newcomers can take a breath, reconnect with themselves, and reclaim joy.
Here, community isn’t just about support , it’s about laughter, celebration, creativity, and building meaningful relationships through shared experiences.
CEB creates inclusive, welcoming spaces where LGBTQIA+ individuals can connect, learn, and take part in community life. Through weekly gatherings, cultural events, educational workshops, and peer-led groups, the program helps reduce isolation and offers opportunities for healing, growth, and belonging.

Limitations of the Program
While we aim to offer compassionate and comprehensive support, there are important limitations:
- • We are not a legal service provider. We refer members to trusted lawyers and clinics.
- • We do not operate emergency housing or shelters.
- • We cannot support immigration processes unrelated to refugee protection (e.g., visitor visas, PR renewals).
- • We do not currently provide bus passes or rent assistance.
- • One-on-one support is prioritized for individuals experiencing multiple barriers or urgent needs.
If You Are in the Refugee Claim Process
If you are preparing your refugee claim or have not yet had your hearing, please connect with our Inland Program, which offers targeted support for claimants navigating the refugee protection process.
