Become a Member
At Rainbow Refugee, we don’t use the word client. We say member, because you’re not just receiving support, you’re joining a community.
Our members are LGBTQIA+ people and people living with HIV+ who are seeking safety, support, and belonging in Canada. As a member, you can access our programs, connect with others, and find a space where you’re valued for who you are.
To become a member and access support through Rainbow Refugee, you must meet all of the following criteria:
Identity
You identify as LGBTQIA+, including transgender, non-binary, intersex, lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, or questioning.
Location
You are currently living in British Columbia.
Immigration Status
You are one of the following:
• A refugee claimant
• A Protected Person
• A resettled refugee (GAR or PSR)
Are you afraid to return to your home country?
Even if you do not meet the immigration status criteria above, you are welcome to reach out.
If your situation involves fear of returning to your country of origin while in Canada, we may still be able to support you or connect you with someone who can.
Exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis, and our team will assess your situation with care and respect.
Intake form required:
All participants must complete an intake form so we can understand your needs and prioritize support based on urgency and safety.
Our membership form is private and only shared after a quick eligibility check. To request access, please tell us:
• The country you’re from
• The city and province where you are currently living
Eamil us at info@rainbowrefugee.ca or use our Contact Form.
Once we confirm you're eligible, we’ll send you a confidential link to register.
Join us at our Open House for new members:
📅 Wednesdays, 1:00–3:00 PM
📍 Room 322 – 1033 Davie St., Vancouver, BC
Our volunteers will help you register and answer your questions in a supportive, welcoming space.
We offer different kinds of support based on your needs and where you are in your journey:
• Inland Program – For refugee claimants: peer support, legal education, and referrals
• Time to Thrive Program – For LGBTQ+ newcomers and protected persons: emotional support, social events, counselling, and help navigating healthcare, housing, and more
If you’re not seeking refugee protection but are a newcomer from the LGBTQIA+ community or living with HIV+, we recommend the I Belong program by MOSAIC — a supportive space for LGBTQIA+ immigrants in BC.
